How to prepare for the EU Whistleblowing Protection Directive | The FCPA Blog

How to prepare for the EU Whistleblowing Protection Directive Cédric Dubar December 16, 2020 7:58 am The EU Whistleblower Protection Directive sets out minimum standards for how organizations should handle whistleblowers’ reports, respond to these reports, and protect the whistleblowers. Because Member States are obligated to adopt this Directive into their national legislation by December 17, 2021, organizations should already ensure that their whistleblowing strategy is compliant with the Directive — while closely monitoring the adoption of the Directive in the EU countries where they operate. By creating an “Ombuds” function, organizations in the scope of the Directive may appropriately tackle one of the key principles in the Directive: if structured properly within the organization, the Ombuds function can ensure that reports are followed by “competent” personnel that maintain a significant level of “independence” and “neutrality” in relation to other functions in the organizatio...

(CNS photo/Nancy Wiechec) By Dennis Sadowski • Catholic News Service • Posted December 11, 2020 (CNS) — The Catholic Church can offer a message of healing to Native peoples through a new and inculturated evangelization that shares the hope expressed by Jesus in the Gospel, the executive director of the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions said at a Mass celebrating the feast of St. Juan Diego. By embracing such an evangelizing style, the church can help Native Americans heal from the “historical trauma” caused by practices that have demeaned thei...

QAnon Republican candidate arrested and charged with possession of child pornography Walter Einenkel Daily Kos Staff 2020/12/11 · Demonstrators in Keene, New Hampshire, gather at a "Save the Children Rally" to protest child sex trafficking and pedophilia around the world, on September 19, 2020. - Anti-paedophilia protests are flaring in th US where the QAnon movement started. QAnon is the umbrella term for a sprawling set of internet conspiracy theories that allege that the world is run by a cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles who are plotting against US President Donald Trump while operating a global child sex-trafficking ring. (Photo by Joseph Prezioso / AFP) (Photo by JOSEPH PREZIOSO/AFP via Getty Images) The #SaveOurChildren protest was a well-attended QAnon affair. One of the great strangenesses and perversions in the QAnon conspiracy theory is that part of what Donald Trump—a man who was good friends with convicted child molester Jeffrey Epstein—is doing in hi...

Very Interesting Louisiana Senator Huey Long Assassinated at the age of 42 Shot In The State Capital Building In 1935 Baton Rouge Dr Karl Jacob Weiss Was The Assassin Huey Long's Sworn Enemy Just Another Zionist Assassination Long was assassinated because he was one of the most charismatic leaders of the 1930s, and he was going to run for president. He could have easily defeated Roosevelt, and would have put International Jewry back 200 years. Louisiana History Louisiana, because of the Mississippi, was the gateway to the South, and Jewish traders arrived as early as 1730. The great Jewish migration of the1880s swamped the country, and they quickly took control. In 1913, they passed the Federal Reserve Act. They then started Wall Street, the ADL, took us into World War One, and collapsed the economy in 1929. They installed Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Franklin Roosevelt. Who Was Huey Long? #DemocracyNow As North Dakota Faces World’s Deadliest Outbreak, Native Communities Condemn States’ COVID Response Nov 18, 2020 Democracy Now! As COVID-19 rampages through the U.S., we look at how the rapid spread of the disease is affecting Native American communities, which have already faced disproportionate infection and death rates throughout the pandemic. “We’re having a lot of people perish. We’re having a lot of death, a lot of hospitalizations,” says Jodi Archambault, a citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and former special assistant to President Obama for Native American affairs. We also speak with Allie Young, founder of Protect the Sacred, who says the Navajo Nation has “worked hard to flatten the curve” of COVID-19 infections but is still vulnerable due to lax public health measures in nearby areas. “We have to travel to these territories where they’re not wearing masks, they’re not thinking about their neighbors who’ve been impacted,” says Young. #DemocracyN...

Rape Allegations Refiled Against Trump

Rape Allegations Refiled Against Trump September 30, 2016JOSH RUSSELL MANHATTAN (CN) – A woman who says Donald Trump raped her at a private sex party when she was 13 years old refiled a lawsuit against him Friday, two weeks after voluntarily dismissing a suit based on the same claims. The new complaint, filed in the federal court in Manhattan, restates plaintiff Jane Doe’s claims of the earlier lawsuit. Namely, that she was lured by a recruiter to summer parties hosted by co-defendant Jeffrey Epstein at an Upper East Side mansion on East 71st St., tied to a bed and forcibly raped by Trump, who slapped her with an open hand and told her he would do whatever he pleased with her. Jane Does goes on to claim that after Epstein also forcibly raped her, he and Trump bickered over who should have taken the minor plaintiff’s virginity. The original complaint was accompanied by two declarations. The first declaration, signed by Jane Doe herself, detailed Trump’s allege...

‘Sex buyers, pimps and traffickers are delusional, narcissistic murderers of innocence’ – Nordic Model Now!

Image
NOVEMBER 5, 2020BY NMN ‘Sex buyers, pimps and traffickers are delusional, narcissistic murderers of innocence’ A woman who wants to remain anonymous sent this powerful piece about her experiences in, and understanding of, prostitution through our Share Your Story page. This provides a space for women to tell of their experiences of the sex trade in their own words. Sex buyers, pimps and traffickers are delusional, narcissistic murderers of innocence that malevolently groom, then prey upon, people who are often victims of child molestation and sexual assault. These vulnerable people also tend to struggle with substance abuse, mental illness and most of all, financial insecurity. When a sex buyer pays for sex (i.e. rape by capitalism) they murder the spirit of someone that is often scared, alone and defenceless. As a survivor of the sex “industry,” I now can see these predators for who they truly are: sick people who are even more twisted than serial killers, for even though t...

Teaching our truths is a large part of what we, including our allies, and all of us, must do. #Indigenous #TreatyRights #reconciliation Treaty Week, Reconciliation & Self-Education Nov 2, 2020 Pam Palmater This is a special video address for superhero educators doing the good work of educating superhero kids of all backgrounds and abilities, in honour of Treaty Appreciation Week in Ontario. While this video was made especially in response to a request by an amazing group of educators, I have made the video public, to share with all educators thinking about Treaty week, reconciliation and self-education. Thank you for all you do to help better educate kids about Indigenous histories and current realities and how they can put their education into action to address the ongoing injustices - including the failure to respect treaty rights in Ontario and the rest of Canada.

‘Untouchable’ attorney charged with sex trafficking

‘Untouchable’ attorney arrested, charged with human trafficking Amber Hunt Kevin Grasha Liz Dufour Madeline Mitchell Cincinnati Enquirer For more than 15 years, alleged victims of Michael Mearan felt like they were screaming into the void. In voices both strained with emotion and seemingly hardened with trauma, they stepped forward – cautiously, with trepidation – to level their allegations: that Mearan, a former Portsmouth, Ohio, city councilman and still-practicing attorney, trapped them in a cycle of drug abuse and sexual servitude. They told their stories to agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. To FBI investigators. To journalists with The Enquirer. The worst that came of it were the convictions of eight defendants who pleaded guilty to drug charges – and none of those eight were Mearan. On Friday, everything changed. After literally decades of rumors and investigations, Mearan was arrested on human trafficking, racketeering and related charges. He’s expecte...

JPMorgan Chase's $920 million spoofing settlement: Do DPAs and NPAs encourage recidivism? | The FCPA Blog

JPMorgan Chase's $920 million spoofing settlement: Do DPAs and NPAs encourage recidivism? | The FCPA Blog JPMorgan Chase’s $920 million spoofing settlement: Do DPAs and NPAs encourage recidivism? Dylan Phillips October 20, 2020 7:58 am Last month, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission ordered JPMorgan Chase & Company and its subsidiaries to pay a total of $920.2 million for artificially manipulating market prices of precious metals by sending false signals to other market participants. This spoofing settlement is the highest monetary relief ever imposed by the CFTC. But is it just another high-dollar settlement in what has become a pattern of recidivism over the last decade? JPMorgan Chase has entered multiple pre-trial agreements with the Department of Justice. After admitting to being a part of the Bernie Madoff Ponzi Scheme in 2014, it paid a $1.7 billion settlement as part of a DPA. And in 2016, it paid $264 million as a part of an NPA to settle FCPA charges. Based ...

Traffickers profiting as pandemic makes crime harder to crack: U.N Traffickers profiting as pandemic makes crime harder to crack, U.N. warns by Kieran Guilbert | Thomson Reuters Foundation Sunday, 18 October 2020 00:01 GMT More people seen at risk of modern slavery as COVID-19 pummels the global economy By Kieran Guilbert LONDON, Oct 18 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Human traffickers are capitalising on the coronavirus pandemic to target people ranging from jobless migrants to out-of-school children, two United Nations specialists said, warning that the fallout from COVID-19 had driven the crime further underground. The global economic slowdown has left countless people jobless, desperate and at risk of exploitation, while victims of trafficking are less likely to be found or receive help with attention and resources diverted elsewhere, the experts said. An estimated 25 million people worldwide are victims of labour and sex trafficking, according to the U...
