Inside a room at the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians’ new tribal community center are three framed sketch drawings by a Native artist. K’Ehleyr McNulty, the tribe’s youth development specialist, pointed to a drawing of a traditional Cow Creek home — a plankhouse, with planks partially in the ground. “That keeps you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summertime,” McNulty explained. Another sketch depicted life near the river. A third showed a woman cooking camas root. McNulty said the images will be a part of a local lesson on traditional ways of living and the technologies the Cow Creek people used. “Just because it happened in the past doesn’t mean it was primitive,” McNulty said.

#60MinutesAustralia Exposing sick psychiatrist who abused anorexic patients | 60 Minutes Australia 60 Minutes Australia Published on Sep 6, 2019 (2014) There are many faces of courage and the most unlikely people can end up heroes. One such hero is Samantha Barlow. For nearly a decade, she's been fighting the most terrible eating disorders. But that's only been half the battle. Because Sam's also had to endure the unimaginable trauma of being abused by the very person who was supposed to make her well - her psychiatrist, Dr Ming Tan. It was the most appalling breach of trust and Samantha wasn't the only girl Tan abused. But he wasn't bargaining on Samantha's guts and determination to take him on. Sam's courage would see this sick psychiatrist brought to justice.

D.C.’s bill to decriminalize prostitution would hurt the people it aims to help - The Washington Post

D.C.’s bill to decriminalize prostitution would hurt the people it aims to help - The Washington Post The Post's View Opinion D.C.’s bill to decriminalize prostitution would hurt the people it aims to help Giving legal immunity to the men who buy sex or profit from it will, they fear, create a demand that will lead to more young girls and women forced into the sex trade. They point to the experience of countries, such as Germany, in which prostitution was legalized but the problems and abuses have worsened. A better option that the council should consider is partial decriminalization, the so-called Nordic model, in which it is legal to sell sex but paying for sex, brothel-owning and pimping would remain crimes. In short, those who are exploiting — not those who are being exploited — would be punished.

US Attorney: Michigan is the nation's most corrupt state | News Hits US Attorney: Michigan is the nation's most corrupt state Posted By Tom Perkins on Wed, Jun 5, 2019 at 2:25 pm Sen. Debbie Stabenow and WDIV anchor Devin Scillian. The level of corruption in Michigan is staggering. It's Democrats, it's Republicans, its the entire political establishment, which is mostly a cesspool of morally bankrupt dirtbags working on behalf of corporations and the wealthy instead of the middle and lower class. That much is evident to anyone paying attention, and things are so bad that in 2012 the FBI organized the Detroit Area Public Corruption Task Force — which is made up of local, state, and federal law officials — to tackle the issue. The task force is still operating, and in some cases local authorities aren't informed of the feds' activities because they can't be trusted. Last month, Metro Times reported that more than 40 southeast Michigan officials are under fe
