A slate of Native activists, advocates and allies discussed the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the ongoing police violence committed against Native people as a show of solidarity for Mr. Floyd and those protesting his death in Minneapolis. The panelists included MMIW activists Michelle Free-LaMere and Dr. Colette M YellowRobe, as well as Lincoln, Nebraska Pastor Janet Banks and Robert Pilot, a HoChunk radio show host based in Minneapolis who attended the protests in Minneapolis. Adrianne Chalepah, a Kiowa comedian and sister to Zachary Bear Heels, who died at the hands of Omaha police in 2017, and Marina Allison, a Lakota mother and daughter to a treaty chief, also shared their thoughts, as did Angie Phillips, a former U.S. Senate candidate and advocate for at-risk youth and struggling families.
